Additional A Walk to Remember Information

The bestselling author of Message in a Bottle and The Notebook returns with a deeply moving tale of first love and its transformational powers.

"When I was seventeen, my life changed forever"... So begins Nicholas Sparks' touching tale of Landon Carter, a teenage boy living in the small town of Beaufort, North Carolina in the late 1950s. Landon is a typical teenager who just wants to have a fun senior year before heading off to college. The last thing he anticipated is Jamie Sullivan, the sweet, pious daughter of the town's Baptist minister. But on the evening of Beaufort's annual Christmas pageant, Landon will undergo a change of heart that will forever alter the course of his life. In the months that follow, Landon discovers truths that it takes most people a lifetime to learn- truths about the nature of beauty, the joy of giving, the pain of loss, and, most of all, the transformational power of love.

Nicholas Sparks' most recent novel, Message in a Bottle has nearly 700,000 hardcover copies in print and was on the New York Times hardcover bestseller list for 28 weeks. The Warner paperback edition has over 1.5 million copies in print. In spring 1999, it was released as a major motion picture starring Kevin Costner, Robin Wright Penn and Paul Newman. A New York Times hardcover bestseller for 56 weeks and a paperback bestseller for well over a year, Nicholas Sparks' first novel, The Notebook (1996) has nearly three million hardcover and paperback copies in print combined.

From the Hardcover edition.

What Customers Say About A Walk to Remember:

In fact, I think it's the only book/movie combo where I've actually liked the movie more.Nicholas Sparks is an amazing author. So I just knew that I would love the book.but when I started reading the book, it was completely different. It was a COMPLETELY different book. I love everything about it.

If you haven't seen the movie, read the book because it really is well-written. Since I've loved the movie for so long, the book wasn't what I thought it would be. The actual book wasn't bad--it was just too different in my opinion. And most will also say that the book is better than the movie. I usually agree, but this book was an exception. The thing that I just could not get over with this book was how different it is from the movie.I watched "A Walk to Remember" when it first came out, and since then it's been, hands down, my favorite movie. It's set in a different era; Landon isn't a "bad boy", Jamie's father wrote the play and Landon volunteered to be in it; they didn't have all of the sweet dates that helped her accomplish things on "her list"; Landon's parents were still together; and on and on and on.

However, I have a really good friend who loved the book before she saw that movie and she feels completely opposite. To sum all of this up: If you love the movie, know that the book is completely different before you start it or you'll be disappointed. I know that people always say that the movie is different from the book. His books are easy to read, yet the stories pull you in. The over-all moral of the story was the same, but practically all of the details were different. That being said, I probably would have loved the book and hated the movie if I read it first.

This is a very good read and I would recommend it to anyone from teenagers to senior adults. It is not too long, so it is good for just cuddling up in a big overstuffed chair on a rainy day. Nicholas Sparks is one of my favorite authors. A Walk To Remember is one of the best books he has written. It would also be an excellent book for a reading group because, unlike most books, it has questions for discussion by a group or to ponder on your own.

I am now a fan of mr. don't get me wrong the book is amazing I was told to watch the movie by a friend I did and absolutely loved it so I picked up the book ,and while I really liked the book I was disappointed to find it completely different from the movie only a few things from the movie happened in the book, so just wanted to let everyone know cause the book is great on its own and so is the movie but to let everyone know they are pretty much two different things. sparks but i will read the book before I watch the other movies so I am not disappointed like that again.

:) I saw the middle and end of the movie and knew I had to get the book. So touching. Other then that this book is a must read for anyone a teen or above.love Nicholas Sparks and this is one of my favorites. This book was so good. I'm not a big crier when I read books but this one i almost did. In my opinion the movie might have been a little better because the book was a little slow moving.

- Monique Ritter, Author of The Song Unsung The two teenagers, Landon and Jamie, are a perfect example of how opposites attract, but also prove that even teenage love can be real and life-changing as well. Yet circumstances beyond their control bring them together and, soon after, they find themselves falling in love - certainly an unlikely romance. As I said before, this is an emotional and moving must-read novel by Nicholas Sparks. Though I am a huge fan of his writing, I sometimes feel that many of his books follow similar storyline structures and are sometimes predictable.

Just make sure you equip yourself with plenty of kleenex. Okay, so I guess that sounds like a typical Nicholas Sparks' story, but I promise you this one will stand out above all others. However, this book is by far an exception. A Walk to Remember is probably one of Nicholas Sparks' greatest love stories - and if you're a fan of his work, you know that Sparks is not short on love stories. Right from the beginning, you are brought into Landon Carter's world of success and popularity and Jamie Sullivan's world as somewhat of a social outcast.

Though Jamie struggles to overcome her secret illness alone, Landon forces her to open up and allow for him to help her through her heartrending battles with leukemia.
